Patricia Celan
Trauma
Research has found that 61% of men and 51% of women experience some form of trauma in their lifetime, and 90% of people with mental illness experience trauma by the end of their lives - usually some form of abuse.
Growing up in an abusive environment as a child predisposed Dr. Celan to developing complex post-traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD). However, the illness did not manifest until she experienced a series of traumatic events as an adult. The effects of delayed onset CPTSD derailed her life for years. As a result of these events and her awakening that standard psychiatry is inadequately trauma-informed and can sometimes cause more harm than good to traumatized patients, Dr. Celan embarked on a mission to create a new integrated approach to heal the effects of trauma.
