There are many challenges in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental illness. For example, misdiagnoses can be common in some cases, especially where certain symptoms occur in multiple disorders. Patients can subsequently struggle with inadequate treatment for years before they find the care they need to heal.
Dr. Celan's goal is to support patients with a trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming approach, provide evidence-based treatment, and keep up-to-date on research developments.
She aims to be open-minded and work collaboratively with patients in exploring diagnostic possibilities while creating a treatment plan that will meet the patient's goals for physical, psychological, and social wellbeing. Her preferred approach to treating mental illness is utilizing psychotherapy while optimizing physical health, with neurostimulation or psychiatric medication as a possible adjunct only when necessary for supporting progress.
Upon completing her psychiatry training, Dr. Celan plans to open a psychotherapy clinic. Her focus will be treating trauma disorders, anxiety disorders, and mood disorders, in both neurotypical and neurodivergent populations, supporting both medical trainees and the general public. This clinic will integrate pet therapy and group acroyoga with structured psychotherapy treatment.
